International Visitors at WRC

One of the interesting by-products of WRC’s increasing reputation is the chance to meet and talk with wildlife veterinarians from around the world.  Today we had a visit from two Russian wildlife health veterinarians who have been visiting the Minnesota Zoo.  Misha Goncharuk and Nadya Sulikhan hale from the far eastern province of Russia called Primorsky, whose administrative center is the city of Vladivostok.

They are working with Wildlife Conservation Society veterinarian Martin Gilbert on wildlife health issues that affect tigers in the Russian Far East, especially the threat of canine distemper virus.

These kinds of interactions are a reminder of the importance of wildlife disease surveillance and the need to stay abreast of ever-changing threats to wild and domestic animals and people. As one of the nation’s busiest wildlife medical centers we’re proud to contribute to both national and international disease surveillance.
